What is the Woman of Achievement Award?
Each year on March 8th, our club celebrates Zonta Rose Day and International Women's Day, by recognizing a woman in our community who demonstrate a commitment to Building a Better World for Women and Girls. Our annual award goes to a woman whose work is “advancing the status of women and girls worldwide through service and advocacy…”
She spent three decades working on U.S. foreign and domestic policy issues related to the health and rights of women and youth. From 2007 through 2016, Ellen developed and managed the public/private Colorado Initiative to Reduce Unintended Pregnancy which is recognized for reducing teen pregnancy rates in Colorado at unprecedented rates. Ellen has expertise on so many issues that impact women and she is an advocate who uses that knowledge to change their lives. She has worked on legislation and programs impacting domestic and international sexual and reproductive health and rights and HIV/AIDS prevention. For more than 20 years, Ellen:
oversaw US public policy initiatives on behalf of the International Women’s Health Coalition and with the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association (NFPRHA),
managed a grassroots education and fundraising campaign and supported other policy work for UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund,
led legislative efforts to advance the development of HIV and pregnancy.
Ellen Marshall has dedicated her life to help women and girls be in control of their education, their families, their careers. We recognize her commitment to making the world a better place for women and girls through our 2024 Zonta Foothills Club Woman of Achievement Award.
